SCPPHC Board Meeting Minutes

 March 3, 2009

Mexican Chiquita, Temecula, Ca.

6:30pm

All Board Members in attendance; Debbie Dutton, Merlene Sutalo, Cathy Yaskivich, Janniece MacDonald, Patty White, Kathryn Grossman & Carole Hackett.

Meeting was called to order by Debbie.

Minutes were accepted as written.

Treasurer’s Report; $17,118.71 ( +$500 from Jorge Valenzuela) A deposit was also made for $828 (dues, banquet, raffle). The banquet raffle brought in $339.

Old Business;

Rose Parade – The cost to make the ponchos is $539 and will be Club owned. Danell expects to get a sponsor from Peru so we will be reimbursed for our expenses. Debbie also hopes to get NAPHA to assist with expense and will also check into the Joy of Riding Program via Lynn Kinsky. We approved to pay the fee to enter the Laguna Parade.

Trail Ride – This was cancelled due to bad weather prior to the ride.

Clinic & Playday – Kathryn will handle the gates and Debbie will help with lunch.

April Show – We need brochures & free flyers, magazines, directories, etc. to hand out. Janniece will pick up the judge. Cathy, Merlene and Carole will post more show posters and drop off flyers at various locations in the area. Kathryn had someone request showing a stallion advertising him at stud in the sale class. We decided against this at this time – only horses for sale. Janniece will handle the sponsorships. For the center of the arena, Cathy will bring a carpet, tables, and plants, Debbie has chairs and Kathryn will pick up some tablecloths. Patty will do hospitality in the office as well as in the barns and handle the Friday 4pm social hour. Aggie Steele volunteered to learn and help Janniece with gates. Kathryn has ordered the awards. She also ordered the Vivienne Lundquist Awards for the NAPHA Nationals as well as the V. Lundquist Award for the Spring Show.

Ventura Show – Air reservations for Mariano Cabrera and his wife have been made by himself. We have Mariano’s bio and are in the process of translating and shortening it a bit. We also have Joe Chandler’s Bio and photo.

Burbank Show – We need better e-mail addresses for Thorndike as well as Risso. Are working on this.

NAPHA – The annual meeting was not particularly good. Nothing on the agenda for clubs to participate. Jackie Singer is sending us a check for her half of the cost of the Vivienne Lundquist Trophy to be presented at the Nationals.

Financial Report – The taxes are being done this week. The 2008 report was presented (attached) and we lost about $5000. We noted the misc. reasons. However, all the shows made a profit.

Fiesta and Los Amigos – Debbie reminded both organizations to apply for show approval.

New Business;

El Merito – Merlene requested we change the labeling on the saddle El Meritos because the points are for breeding as well as pleasure/performance. We agreed and will discuss a new term. Cathy needed a decision on whether or not we allow points to accrue towards lifetime points for a horse that apparently showed in halter as a 3yr. old in both 2007 an 2008. All agreed not to accrue the 2008 points.

2009 Banquet – We have confirmed Jan. 16, 2010 as the banquet date at the Norconian Club in Norco.

Carole sent “get well” cards to Rosie Heffley and Bill Davis as well as a “sympathy” card to Ken Jallen on the sudden loss of his wife, Penny. All agreed that we will send flowers/plant in the future as well.

Carole said that Galveston Equine, who donated a blanket to the raffle, will donate blankets to the high point juniors at our shows this year-these will be labeled. All agreed to give them a corporate sponsorship. They also can let us have some blankets on consignment to sell with our logo items and we can have a percentage.

Country Supply – Country Supply has a new offer. The Club gets credit, 5% back at the end of the year, on purchases made by Club members. Patty will put the details in the newsletter.

Merlene will pick up misc. items in Peru for the next banquet.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:15pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Cathy Yaskivich
