 Parades – Danell said there are about 14 riders confirmed for the SCPPHC  parade group with the intention of getting in the Rose Parade. Three parades are scheduled before the application is due on May 15th. A group is making red and white ponchos and hatbands. Individual photos of horse and riders will be taken at the Laguna Beach parade. We may have an added edge if we get a sponsor from Peru as well and Alberto Lummis is helping us to try to get a sponsor. The theme is “A Cut Above the Rest” which definitely is the Peruvian Paso.

 Equine Affaire – This went well although attendance was down.

 Banquet – 61 people are signed up. Patty will pick up the awards from G & W. Debbie will set-up on Friday and handle minor completion on Sat. after the Saddle & Harness Club finish their banquet. John will put up balloons. We decided to have the award presentation prior to dinner which will be about 6:30pm. Raffle will follow dinner. Social hour will be from 4-5pm  and the general meeting will be at 5pm with the award ceremony following. Cathy will need a table at the entrance to handle the reservations, sell raffle tickets and take membership renewals. For one of the raffle items we agreed to donate 2 certificates for 2 free classes at the Spring Show.

Trail Ride – In order to offer the associate membership we would need a By-Law change as this is not listed as one of our forms of membership. Everyone participating will need to sign a release form. Perhaps in the future will have a By-Law change to include an associate membership.

SCPPHC Board Meeting Minutes

 March 3, 2009

Mexican Chiquita, Temecula, Ca.

6:30pm

All Board Members in attendance; Debbie Dutton, Merlene Sutalo, Cathy Yaskivich, Janniece MacDonald, Patty White, Kathryn Grossman & Carole Hackett.

Meeting was called to order by Debbie.

 Minutes were accepted as written.

Treasurer’s Report; $17,118.71 ( +$500 from Jorge Valenzuela) A deposit was also made for $828 (dues, banquet, raffle). The banquet raffle brought in $339.

Old Business;

Rose Parade – The cost to make the ponchos is $539 and will be Club owned. Danell expects to get a sponsor from Peru so we will be reimbursed for our expenses. Debbie also hopes to get NAPHA to assist with expense and will also check into the Joy of Riding Program via Lynn Kinsky. We approved to pay the fee to enter the Laguna Parade.

 Trail Ride – This was cancelled due to bad weather prior to the ride.

Clinic & Playday – Kathryn will handle the gates and Debbie will help with lunch.

April Show – We need brochures & free flyers, magazines, directories, etc. to hand out. Janniece will pick up the judge. Cathy, Merlene and Carole will post more show posters and drop off flyers at various locations in the area. Kathryn had someone request showing a stallion advertising him at stud in the sale class. We decided against this at this time – only horses for sale. Janniece will handle the sponsorships. For the center of the arena, Cathy will bring a carpet, tables, and plants, Debbie has chairs and Kathryn will pick up some tablecloths. Patty will do hospitality in the office as well as in the barns and handle the Friday 4pm social hour. Aggie Steele volunteered to learn and help Janniece with gates. Kathryn has ordered the awards. She also ordered the Vivienne Lundquist Awards for the NAPHA Nationals as well as the V. Lundquist Award for the Spring Show.

 Ventura Show – Air reservations for Mariano Cabrera and his wife have been made by himself. We have Mariano’s bio and are in the process of translating and shortening it a bit. We also have Joe Chandler’s Bio and photo.

 Burbank Show – We need better e-mail addresses for Thorndike as well as Risso. Are working on this.

 NAPHA – The annual meeting was not particularly good. Nothing on the agenda for clubs to participate. Jackie Singer is sending us a check for her half of the cost of the Vivienne Lundquist Trophy to be presented at the Nationals.

 Financial Report – The taxes are being done this week. The 2008 report was presented (attached) and we lost about $5000. We noted the misc. reasons. However, all the shows made a profit.

 Fiesta and Los Amigos – Debbie reminded both organizations to apply for show approval.

 New Business;

El Merito – Merlene requested we change the labeling on the saddle El Meritos because the points are for breeding as well as pleasure/performance. We agreed and will discuss a new term. Cathy needed a decision on whether or not we allow points to accrue towards lifetime points for a horse that apparently showed in halter as a 3yr. old in both 2007 an 2008. All agreed not to accrue the 2008 points.

 2009 Banquet – We have confirmed Jan. 16, 2010 as the banquet date at the Norconian Club in Norco.

 Carole sent “get well” cards to Rosie Heffley and Bill Davis as well as a “sympathy” card to Ken Jallen on the sudden loss of his wife, Penny. All agreed that we will send flowers/plant in the future as well.

 Carole said that Galveston Equine, who donated a blanket to the raffle, will donate blankets to the high point juniors at our shows this year-these will be labeled. All agreed to give them a corporate sponsorship. They also can let us have some blankets on consignment to sell with our logo items and we can have a percentage.

 Country Supply – Country Supply has a new offer. The Club gets credit, 5% back at the end of the year, on purchases made by Club members. Patty will put the details in the newsletter.

 Merlene will pick up misc. items in Peru for the next banquet.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:15pm.

 Respectfully submitted,

Cathy Yaskivich

We agreed to change the next meeting to May 12th rather than have the meeting on Cinco de Mayo at this Mexican Restaruant. Plus it is Debbie’s birthday.

 The meeting was adjourned at 8:30pm.

SCPPHC Board Meeting Minutes

6:30pm

Meeting was called to order by Debbie.

 6 Board Members in attendance; Debbie Dutton, Cathy Yaskivich, Merlene Sutalo, Janniece MacDonald, Patty White, & Carole Hackett. Missing was Kathryn Grossman.

 Meeting was called to order by Debbie.

 Minutes were accepted as written with a change that stall fees at Fairplex were increased to $15.00 per day. Also the sponsorship fee increase of $5 will start in 2010.

 Treasurer’s Report : $20,847.74 although Seaside Park has not been paid yet. We received a bill from the Franchise tax Board regarding a penalty for not filing a non-profit certificate. This had been done so John MacDonald will check into this.

 Old Business;

Parade Group – We have the raffle tickets for the saddle donated by Alberto Lummis to benefit the parade group. Some have already been sold. We have been invited to enter the Placentia Heritage Festival Parade on Oct. 10th. We will consider entering this parade if accepted by the Rose Parade committee. We also discussed another parade in Norco in Sept. but decided against this one as it will be very hot at that time.

 Spring Show – Still need to check into an EMT for the show. Debbie will look into this.

 Ventura Show – Show report supplied and reviewed. Didn’t make as much profit even though we had about the same amount of horses and the expenses hadn’t increased much.  We noted that participants were not entering as many classes as in the past. Danell Adams reported that her award is defective and will need to be fixed or replaced.

 urbank Show – John is working with Risso and Cathy with Thorndike on airline reservations. Charlotte Becerra feels we can increase participation at this show with more advertising. She can handle the advertising including any designing needed in trade for a banner as well as show sponsorships. All agreed. We need to find a list of ranches or facilities where participants can stop/rest their horses in route for those coming long distances. Will list Patty as contact. Next month we need to work on the class list. We discussed having the halter and most of the junior classes on Sunday. No junior classes on Friday. We also discussed making all the amateur classes open and anyone qualifying for the Sr. Amateur High Point notify the show secretary. No laureado parties. Annette Kart has contacted us and we would like to have a bar-b-que or function at her new home in Burbank perhaps on Friday evening. We could supply the wine and Annette – perhaps snacks, or ? There is also the possibility she would like to host the annual election meeting in November. Merlene will discuss these issues with Annette. We also discussed the possibility of dinner at the Peruvian  restaurant owned by the wife of Richard Ubillus. If he could give us some coupons/offer coupons in the show premium, we could offer him a business sponsorship.

 Directory – Debbie will do soon.

 Arlynda – Cathy has e-mail a contract to her.

 Nov. Minutes – Kathryn to send to Cathy to forward to Debbie Pye.

 Banner Sponsorship – Debbie will prepare the application form and Carole and Patty will work on the sponsors.

Tickets for Equifest are $12 and hopefully members will be there to support us. The display and silent auction items will be outside the show office. Hopefully enough will be raised to reimburse most of the Club and riders expenses.

 BurbankShow -  Kathryn will set up gift bags with various items for the costume class awards plus ribbons. A mug will also be given for 1st place.  Janniece will check into a shuttle for Thorndike as he is arriving very early on Thursday morning. Janniece will pick Risso up at the airport on Thursday afternoon. Debbie is checking into RV spaces on the grass near the barns and wash rack area.

 Banner Sponsorships – Carole has 18-20 sponsorships committed. We need to figure out how to hang the banners on the arena wall. Debbie will consult with Joann Asman.

 Election Meeting -  Nominations have been sent out and are returning. The ballots with flyers on the meeting will go out next week.  May need to get a “porto-potty” for the meeting.

 Equine Affaire – Charlotte has been busy so more info. Next month.

 New Business;

RAC Meeting- Tuesday Oct. 20th. Cathy will participate.

Daryl Thompson – He has been talking to Channel 5 and Ted Chin from NBC.

 Judges 2010 – All agreed on Nick Breaux for Spring Classic and Lionel Peralta for the Fall Classic if they passes their judging tests being taken at the Nationals. Roque Benevides has accepted judging the Grand Championship. The Burbank shows are confirmed for Nov. 5-7, 2010. Debbie will contact Rolando Garcia Bertoncini to see if he is available for the Pacific Coast Show. We decided to now state in our judging contracts that the Club will pay for “economy” only on airfares. Any upgrades must be paid at their own expense.

 Meeting was adjourned at 8:15pm.
