Saturday, December 8 came as a beautiful day in Southern California.  Eighteen SCPPHC members and fourteen horses, joined up at the Keyways Winery in Temecula for a club hosted trail ride. The small and quaint winery had great accommodations for our trailers and horses to include an arena, hitching posts and fresh water. A Temecula
resident and long time equestrian, Joy Bruce, joined us to be our trail guide and Jody Childs provided her with a Peruvian so she could keep up!

The first hour of the ride took us to the Renzoni Winery. They had a small hut situated on a grassy area with tables, umbrellas, nice hitching posts and of course, wine tasting. The group enjoyed a nice lunch, some good wine and good gabbin. We then started our ride up the hillside heading for the Leonesse Winery. The view of the Temecula Wine
Valley was beautiful!

After Leonesse, we started back to did our horses!  All were pretty low key until we made that turn and even though we were a good mile from our trailers, they just sensed their “homes” and picked up the pace.  After about three hours, we arrived...a bit quicker...back to our trailers and the winery, unsaddled and settled everyone. Then, we were able to enjoy some more wine tasting, gather on a beautiful outdoor patio to relax and enjoy a guitar duet.

The wineries were very accommodating to us and to our horses and the people at Keyways, where we started and
ended, were very gracious. Joy Bruce was a wonderful trail guide and the club provided her with a club logo
shirt for her hospitality. Both she and Deb Pye took some great photos as well.  It was the type of social event and
riding that we need to do more often. It was a slow, easy ride for our horses and a wonderful opportunity to talk
and enjoy the day. Hope to see more on the next one!

Our special thanks to Jody Childs and Jo Dykema for helping to make the arrangements for this ride and handling the logistics. And our very special appreciation to Joy Bruce for guiding our group on this ride and taking some great photos on the trail!
