Introduction:
|
For over 35 years, the Southern
California Peruvian Paso Horse Club (SCPPHC) has been on of the largest
and most active clubs in the nation. With a large membership of
active breeders, trainers, owners and aficionados, the SCPPHC sponsors
three championship shows where members can earn points toward the club's
annual High Point Award, "El Merito", and the distinguished lifetime award
"El Supremo". All shows are approved by the North American Peruvian
Horse Association (NAPHA), and are operated in accordance with the
national organization's rules.
Club officers are elected each
year, with activities scheduled throughout the year. Members can
participate in exhibitions, parades, open shows and demonstrations.
The Club sponsors trail rides or clinics in various scenic Southern
California locations, an annual awards banquet and general membership
meetings. The newsletter, "For Beat Notes", is published quarterly
for the members. The Club also supports promotional activities
related to spreading the word about this wonderful breed of horse.

Board:
|
The SCPPHC Board consists of seven members: President;
Vice-President; Secretary; Treasurer; and three Directors. Each
position is elected for a one-year term from January to December.
Nomination forms are sent out in September and any member in good
standing can be nominated for any Board position. The President for
the current year can choose to re-run for office, or decline the President
position and automatically assume a Director position for the subsequent
year. The ballots are sent out by October and all members are
eligible to vote. The election is held at the Membership and
election meeting in November where all the ballots are tallied. The
candidates with the majority votes in each category wins. All
members are encouraged to be active in the club and seek elective office
if interested. The duties for each Board position are outlined on
this page.

Shows:
|
The SCPPHC sponsors three shows
each year. The Spring Classic is generally held in April and offers
the first show of the season for Southern California exhibitors.
It's a good opportunity for horses just entering the show ring or
preparing horses for the show season. The Annual Awards Banquet is
also held in conjunction with this show. The Pacific Coast Show is
offered during the summer months and is hoted in the Ventura/Santa Barbara
region. The October Grand Championship Show is the final show of the
year, and has a Halloween theme with a costume class and other fun
activities. Volunteers from the SCPPHC are responsible for the show
management. Those roles are outlined on this
page.
